Victor Negrescu indicated on Friday in a Facebook update that the forthcoming September elections represent a renewed referendum on Moldova’s aspiration to join the European Union.
„The Republic of Moldova stands at a pivotal moment. It’s clear that the Russian Federation does not favor the success of pro-European groups in the September elections. The reasoning is simple: if they prevail, Moldova’s path toward the European Union becomes entrenched, diminishing Moscow’s influence in Chișinău,” emphasized Negrescu.
He disclosed that this fall, the European Parliament will open a new office in Chișinău.
„This initiative has the complete support of the European Parliament President, Roberta Metsola. The office will play an active role in facilitating the integration of European laws and will enhance connections between Europe and the citizens of Moldova. It will be headed by an experienced Romanian national, strengthening the support network for Moldova: Chișinău – Bucharest – Brussels. The European Parliament consistently responds swiftly in favor of Moldovan citizens. We have successfully increased pre-financing, expanded grants, and provided resources for children’s education, support for the elderly, and reductions in energy costs. During the European Parliament’s plenary session in September, we will adopt a groundbreaking resolution. This significant document, unusual as it is passed just before an election, highlights the Russian Federation’s interference and firmly reaffirms support for Moldova’s EU membership,” remarked the EP Vice-President.
